Outside Sales Representative

General The roll of the outside sales representative is customer and business development leading to “A” level requests for quote and ultimately closed deals.

Workflow Outside sales report to the president.  Largely self-directed and tasked to identify new opportunities and assist the customer through the RFQ creation process.  Work with inside project team leader to create preliminary concepts and initial project budgets.  Handing off the quote ready RFQ and all related project information to the project team at the time that a firm quote is required.  For opportunities that are initially quote ready, a direct hand-off to the project team is necessary.

The project team will develop the final concept and quote.  In most cases it will be the responsibility of outside sales to present the proposal and follow up.  When necessary, the project team will be involved in the presentation and follow up.

When the deal is closed, the project team will work directly with the customer and see the project through to completion.  Outside sales will be involved during the design and build as much as desired or necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify new opportunities with current and new customers.
  • Follow up on opportunities that come to us through various marketing efforts.
  • Collaborate with the other outside sales reps to determine additional opportunities and who will lead them.
  • Work with internal project teams to develop concepts and quotes.
  • Assist in developing external sales representatives.
  • Present quotes and follow up with the customers.
  • Generate sales reports for management and project teams.
  • Attend weekly sales meetings to review status of open opportunities.
  • Utilize the CRM software to maintain contacts and opportunity status.
  • Assist with improving marketing materials and marketing efforts.
  • Attend trade shows to accumulate new contacts and contact existing customers.
  • Assist with project run-offs as needed and provide after sale support to the customer.
